JAKARTA - The Palestinian Ministry of Health said the death toll from Israeli attacks jumped to 30.

Israeli forces fought against Hamas-led fighters in parts of the Gaza Strip today.

Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas accused Israel of escalating attacks on Gaza to try to thwart efforts by Arab and US mediators to reach a ceasefire agreement. Israel says it is trying to eradicate Hamas fighters.

The Israeli air force has attacked about 40 targets across the region, including sniper and observation posts, military buildings, and buildings equipped with explosives.

The armed wing of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, Hamas allies, said their fighters had attacked Israeli forces in several locations with anti-tank rockets and mortar bombs.
