Hundreds Of Honorary Teachers Fired Due To Cleaning Policy, P2G: It's Like Being Shot And Then Told To Dig Your Own Grave

JAKARTA - Hundreds of honorary teachers in Jakarta suddenly terminated their teaching contracts by their respective schools. The Teacher Education Association (P2G) noted that 107 honorary teachers were affected by the unilateral dismissal.

Head of the Advocacy Division of P2G Teacher Iman Zanatul Haeri revealed, on July 5, 2024 or the first week of entering a new school in 2024/2025, honorary teachers received messages from their respective principals to fill out forms online.

Apparently, in the form, honorary teachers were asked to fill in the data and approval stating that they could no longer teach because of the honorary cleansing policy.

"Since the first day they entered was the last day at school. After it was announced they were no longer allowed to teach, they were told to fill out the cleansing form. It was like being shot, then told to dig their own graves," Iman told reporters, Tuesday, July 16.

When reporting the "expel" smoothly from his job to P2G, honorary teachers at DK Jakarta were shocked because they suddenly stopped working. This is because several honorary teachers who were affected by the dismissal have taught for more than 6 years.

Some are crying, some are confused about how to tell their family at home because in a short time their career as a teacher just ran aground. To this day they are still wondering, what policy is this and why are they being treated like that? Without notification and without preparation," said Iman.

There is an assumption that the cleaning of honorary teachers (P3) in schools occurred due to a shift in the procurement of PPPK (P1) teachers. Iman stated that the sliding conditions between honorary teachers (P3) and PPPK (P1) teachers were quite heated because they were forced to compete for the same formation.

In fact, according to Iman, the appointment of PPPK teachers must still be completed without deciding the rights and opportunities of honorary teachers to take part in the PPPK selection.

"Well, this is even a P1 teacher who is encouraged to shift honorary teachers (P3). Even though both have rights. They are like being pitted against each other," said Iman.

From this problem, P2G urges the DKI Jakarta Education Office to explain the meaning of the cleansing policy which led to the unilateral dismissal of honorary teachers. This is because the impact was that the honorary teachers who were fired could not participate in the 2024 PPPK selection.

"Of course they don't want to be fired, they want to keep teaching, keep getting hours (teaching), and want to have a PPPK selection opportunity. They want to compete," he added.
