Donald Trump Survived Shooting During Campaign In Pennsylvania, Suspected Perpetrator Reportedly Killed

JAKARTA - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump survived the shooting while campaigning in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The shooter was killed and Secret Service is investigating the shooting as an attempted murder, a source told Reuters.

Trump just started his speech when gunfire erupted and Trump and other campaign participants took refuge on the floor. Secret Service agents stormed him and Trump disappeared behind the podium for about a minute before he was rushed to a waiting vehicle.

When a shot was heard, Trump grabbed his right ear with his right hand, then lowered his hand to see him before kneeling behind the podium before the Secret Service agent stormed and covered him.

He appeared about a minute later, his red hat that read "Make America Great Again" was released and heard saying "wait, wait," before the agent escorted him to the waiting vehicle.

Secret Service and the former president's campaign team said Trump survived the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, about 30 miles (50 km) north of Pittsburgh.

Video footage immediately showed blood running on Trump's cheeks and right ear.

"President Trump thanked law enforcement and the first respondent for their swift action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being examined at a local medical facility. Further details will follow," spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

A spectator was also killed, and others are in critical condition, a Washington Post reporter said on social media, citing regional prosecutor Butler County.

The identity and motives of the shooters are not yet clear. Leaders of Republicans and Democrats quickly condemned the violence.

The shooting came less than four months before the November 5 general election, when Trump faces a'rematch' in the presidential election with the incumbent from Democratic Party Joe Biden next November.
