JAKARTA - Candidates for Supreme Court Justices of the State Chamber of Administration (TUN) Mustamar said he was optimistic that the Supreme Court (MA) could become the center of knowledge and leadership of legal reforms in national law development.

According to Mustamar, the Supreme Court could go to a knowledge-based organization if the quality of the decisions issued by the institution was improved.

"If we can improve the quality of the decision, the Supreme Court can become the center of legal science and become the head of legal reform and national law development through quality decisions," he said during an open interview on the selection of candidates for Supreme Court justices in 2024 at the Auditorium of the Judicial Commission (KY), Jakarta, Wednesday.

The statement was made by Mustamar when answering questions from KY member M. Taufiq HZ. To Mustamar, Taufiq asked about the optimism of the future Supreme Court judge to take part in the current state of the Supreme Court.

"How much confidence do you have to be able to surf in that ideal condition, sir?" asked Taufiq.

Furthermore, Mustamar said, the Supreme Court was already on the right track in achieving the vision of realizing a great judicial body because of the organizational performance.

"When asked how big it is, I feel optimistic, sir. Because if we look at the vision of the Supreme Court to go to the Supreme Court in 2035, which is approximately 11 years away, we are already on the right track, sir. Especially in the field of performance-based organization. That is, in the field of handling cases that have gone to modern courts, using IT," he said.

Then, Taufiq again asked Mustamar whether he believed in or not he would be the supreme judge if he saw the various problems faced by the Supreme Court and other state institutions.

"Are you still sure about these facts?" asked Taufiq.

"The short answer, I still believe sir. We'd better try to do what we can than let bad things get worse," Mustamar replied.

Mustamar is one of the two candidates for Supreme Court justices in the TUN room. Currently, he serves as Inspector of Region III of the Indonesian Supreme Court Supervisory Agency (Bawas).

The law graduate from Andalas University who earned a doctorate from the University of Indonesia was proposed to be the Supreme Court judge by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia.
