KPK Invites Construction Experts To Check The Quality Of Tsunami Shelters In NTB

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted physical checks on temporary evacuation sites (TES) or tsunami shelters in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) that were corrupted. Investigators even collaborated with construction experts.

"That is the focus for us as well (about the quality of the building, ed). We bring in experts, including experts, meaning construction experts to assess how powerful the building is," said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu to reporters quoted on Wednesday, July 10.

Previously reported, the KPK revealed allegations of corruption in the construction of a temporary evacuation site (TES) or tsunami shelter in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province that cost the state up to tens of billions of rupiah. Two suspects have been named.

"The state loss for the case is around Rp. 19 billion," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika to reporters in a written statement to reporters quoted on Tuesday, July 9.

Tessa said this construction was carried out by the Building and Environmental Planning Task Force, the Implementation Activities for Building and Environmental Planning (PBL) of West Nusa Tenggara Province, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing in 2014. The investigation into the alleged corruption has been carried out since 2023.

"And have named two suspects, namely one state administrator and another person from BUMN," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

Until now, the anti-corruption commission has not announced the suspects or their actions. The process is carried out after investigators have sufficient evidence.

"Regarding the suspect's name and the unlawful acts committed by the suspects, it will be announced when the investigation of this case is deemed sufficient," concluded Tessa.
