JAKARTA - British police have arrested 27 climate activists who are suspected of planning to throw tantrums at the airport during the summer holidays.
Activists of the Just Stop Oil group were arrested in a raid under a law prohibiting plans to disrupt national infrastructure.
"We know Just Stop Oil plans to disrupt airports across the country this summer, which is why we are taking swift and decisive action now," said Chief Inspector Ian Howells, who led the operation.
"Our stance is very clear that anyone who endangers airport safety and security in London can expect a strong response from security officers or staff," he added.
Four people were arrested at London's Gatwick airport on Tuesday, June 25, and six others in a community center in east London. The rest are being held at their homes around England.
Those arrested included several important members of the organization, police added.
Just Stop Oil accused the police of acting against the law.
Being a supporter of Just Stop Oil is enough to make you a suspect, the group said in a statement.
