Fisip Unhas Student Chair Reported Allegations Of Sexual Harassment

Hasanuddin University (Unhas) Makassar, South Sulawesi is investigating a case of alleged sexual harassment of a number of female students by the Head of the Department at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Unhas. "We have received reports from students but we have not been able to convey it to the public first, it is still in the process of being investigated," said Head of the Unhas Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force Prof. Farida, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 27.

He stated that he had conducted an assessment of four students suspected of being victims of sexual harassment who had reported that there was sexual violence experienced.

"We have also summoned the alleged perpetrator to be examined. Meanwhile, it is still in the process of being proven," he said.

A number of four female students reported this incident on June 10, 2024, to the Unhas Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (PPKS).

They reported various acts of sexual harassment experienced since 2023 by one of the victims, to the same experience other students also experienced.

The equation of the four victims is that this harassment occurs while they are in the process of administering the final study, even the alleged perpetrator is also the final task guide for his student.

Sexual harassment that occurs in the form of physical contact such as handshots,cipikacipiki, holding the neck without consent, cheeks, and other inappropriate actions.

Unhas Santi's Anti-Sexual Violence Committee stated that Unhas had implemented Permendikbud Number 30 and anti-sexual violence campaigns.

"This means that we are ready to handle all cases of sexual violence on campus, even if the perpetrators are from the lecturer. Moreover, the status of the alleged perpetrator has power, it is clear that there is a dominant power relationship if Unhas is not ready to look at the case objectively," he explained.
