Heat In Washington Makes Abraham Lincoln Candle Statue Melt

JAKARTA - He remained calm during the American Civil War, but the heat wave proved too heavy for his statue.

President Abraham Lincoln's wax statue melts as temperatures rise over the weekend in the nation's capital.

His head melted first, then one of his legs fell off his body and one leg turned into a lump. The chair sank to the ground.

As reported by the BBC, Wednesday, June 26, the 6-foot-high head of the Lincoln Memorial candle statue is now being repaired, leaving the wire sticking around the neck of the 16th president.

The memorial is located at Barker Camp's location in Washington DC - a civil war-era refugee camp that houses African-Americans who were oncenetted and released - now home to elementary schools.

The statue is placed outside Garrison Elementary School as part of the Candle Monument Series by Virginia-based artist Sandy Williams IV.

The statue was installed at the same location last September, but the first version of the wax monument covered more than 100 axes that were lit ahead of time, melting most of the art installations ahead of the inauguration ceremony.

The new version installed in February has strategically and less-placed axes

DC's metro area is on a hot alert over the weekend. High temperatures are expected to continue this week.

The head of the wax will be re-mounted this week, local media reported.
