Response To The Issue Of Kaesang Forward Jakarta Gubernatorial Election, Ahok Alludes To The Organizational Process

Ahok responded to the issue of Kaesang Pangarep advancing in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pilkada (VOI/Diah Ayu Wardani).

JAKARTA - Former Governor of DKI Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, responded to the issue of President Joko Widodo's youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, who was rumored to be running in the Jakarta gubernatorial and deputy governorial elections (Pilgub).

Ahok was reluctant to comment specifically on Kaesang's political ethics in responding to the discourse. What is clear is that during his time as a PDIP cadre, Ahok said politicians had to go through an organizational process.

"What is certain is that in the PDI-P, including Gen Z's children today, we must leave a trace, meritocracy, and carry out the process," Ahok said when met in Central Jakarta, Saturday, June 22, 2024.

In fact, according to Ahok, party cadres need to carry out organizational experience from the lower levels before it will be advanced in political contestation.

"So, everyone must carry out a process. Well, we are taught to organize. There must be cadres, there must be evidence, then go up, go up, "said the former President Commissioner of Pertamina.

However, Ahok returned it to the public as a user of the right to vote to determine whether the PSI General Chair deserves to be the regional head or not.

"Like it or not, it depends on the voters," he continued.

Previously, Kaesang Pangarep opened his voice about his opportunity to run in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pilkada.

Kaesang admitted that he had not officially decided whether to run for the DKI Jakarta Pilkada. He will announce this when approaching the registration day for regional head candidates at the KPU.

"If you ask me whether I will go forward or not, wait for the surprise in August," said Kaesang when met at the PSI DPP office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

In the 2024 DKI Jakarta DPRD legislative election, PSI obtained eight legislative seats. Thus, PSI needs other political parties to form a coalition, at least getting at least 22 seats to carry Cagub-Cawagub. This is also a consideration for Kaesang.

"If we look at it, PSI should be able to nominate governors and deputy governors, although they still have to form a coalition with other parties," said Kaesang.
