JAKARTA - Turkey welcomes Armenia's decision to recognize the Palestinian State, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We welcome the decision of Armenia to recognize the Palestinian State, following countries such as Spain, Ireland, Norway and Slovenia," the statement said.

"Recognition of the Palestinian state is a must after the law, justice and international conscience," he added.

The statement concluded Ankara would continue its efforts to recognize Palestine by more countries.

Armenia announced on Friday, June 21, it has recognized the Palestinian state.

"Reaffirming its commitment to international law and principles of equality, sovereignty, and peaceful coexistence, the Republic of Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine," the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also said Armenia previously supported a UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians since October 2023.

The ministry also condemned Israel's attacks on civilian infrastructure and violence against civilians.
