Kaesang Says 'We Are Different' About The Duet For The DKI Gubernatorial Election, Anies: We Respect

JAKARTA - Anies Baswedan responded to the statement by the Chairman of the Indonesian Solidaration Party (PSI) who now no longer wants to be paired with him in the 2024 DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election. Anies admitted that he respected Kaesang's decision.

"Yes, we all respect every view, respect every thought. So, I always take a position of respect for anything that becomes his view," said Anies when met at the Jakarta Fair Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Friday, June 21.

Some time ago, Anies had responded to the proposal to be paired with President Joko Widodo's son. Anies admitted that he had not yet thought about who would be the candidate for Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, his partner in the upcoming 2024 Pilkada, even though he had officially announced his plan to run again as a candidate for Governor of DKI.

According to Anies, there is still enough time to work on the names that will be paired with him before the nomination period to the KPU in August.

"All names referred to as potential couples have not been discussed at all. So there is no need to speculate on discussing anyone's name, because it has not been discussed," said Anies.

Previously, Kaesang Pangarep emphasized that he would not duet with Anies Baswedan to run in the Jakarta Pilkada.

"Just for information, all of my friends and I think I already know, Mr. Anies and I are different," said Kaesang when met at the Muhammadiyah office in DKI Jakarta, Central Jakarta, Friday, June 21.

This was said by Kaesang when answering reporters' questions about his discourse to be paired with Anies.

Kaesang is also reluctant to explain in detail what plans he will carry out with PSI in the fight in the 2024 Pilkada later.

Kaesang's attitude is different from what he said before. If it was carried in the Jakarta Pilkada, Kaesang admitted that he would prefer to be paired with Anies Baswedang rather than Ridwan Kamil (RK). According to him, Anies' electability is currently higher.

This was conveyed by Kaesang after blusukan in the Cempaka Putih area, Friday, June 14. "I can't do this yet, I haven't been nominated yet. For example, if you look at the survey, it's the most realistic with Mr. Anies," said Kaesang.

However, the youngest son of President Joko Widodo assessed that the performance of the former Governor of DKI Jakarta and the former Governor of West Java were equally qualified to lead the region.

"Everything is good, all of them are great people. Mr. Anies yesterday was also one of the presidential candidates. I like to watch, first, Anies' insistence is also good. Mr. RK is also quite good, taking part in West Java, everything is good. No problem," said Kaesang.
