JAKARTA - President Vladimir Putin warned that South Korea would make a big mistake if it delivered weapons to Ukraine, saying Moscow would respond with countermeasures against Seoul.

President Putin said Thursday after ending his visit to North Korea and Vietnam, after a Yonhap News Agency report said South Korea would review the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine, after he and South Korean leader Kim Jon-un signed a new comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement on Wednesday.

President Putin warned Seoul not to supply weapons to Ukraine, a move he said was not expected.

"Regarding the supply of lethal weapons to war zones in Ukraine, it would be a huge mistake," President Putin said.

"I hope this will not happen. And if that happens, then we will also take the right decision, which is likely not to please the current South Korean leadership," he continued while warning Seoul.

President Putin further said that the Ginseng Country does not need to worry about the latest Moscow pact with Pyongyang.

"South Korea, the Republic of Korea does not need to worry because our military assistance based on the agreement we signed will only be granted if aggression is carried out against one of the signatories," he explained.

"As far as I know, the Republic of Korea does not plan aggression against the DPRK (North Korea)," President Putin continued.

As previously reported, Yonhap News Agency quoted an official as reporting that South Korea would review the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Seoul itself condemned the new agreement signed by North Korea and Russia, judging it to violate UN sanctions.

The government clearly emphasizes that any cooperation that directly or indirectly helps North Korea increase its military force constitutes a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and is subject to monitoring and sanctions by the international community, the presidential office said in a statement, stressing such abuses would exacerbate Seoul's relations with Moscow.
