US-China Holds First Nuclear Negotiation After 5 Years, Taiwan Becomes In The Spotlight

JAKARTA - The United States (US) and China have again held negotiations to discuss nuclear. Negotiations took place for the first time in five years.

This was revealed by the expert and representative of Channel II Diplomacy who was involved in the negotiations, David Santoro.

In the negotiations, it was stated that representatives of China confirmed to the US and its allies that they would not use atoms or nuclear to threaten Taiwan. Even if China is cornered in tension with Taiwan.

"They [China] told the US that they are truly confident they will be able to win in the conventional fight over Taiwan without using nuclear weapons," David told Reuters for the first time, Friday, June 21.

The semi-official nuclear arms negotiations between the US and China were held in March 2024.

David in these negotiations became part of Line II Diplomacy which is usually filled by former officials or academics speaking on behalf of the authorities regarding the position of their government, although they were not directly involved in the arrangement.

Meanwhile, talks between the government of a Track One country or Channel I diplomacy. During the meeting, US Channel I Diplomacy was represented by about half a dozen delegates, including former officials and scholars.

Meanwhile, China sent delegations of scholars and analysts, including several former People's Liberation Army officers in negotiations for two days in the Shanghai Hotel conference room.

A spokesman for the US State Department said it did not participate in the meeting but considered that Line II diplomacy had positive benefits. Although he stressed, the negotiations could not replace formal meetings between governments.
