JAKARTA - Mount Ibu on Halmahera Island, North Maluku, has experienced another eruption that produces volcanic ash approximately three kilometers from the peak of the active volcano.

Mount Ibu Observation Post officer, Gradita Trihadi, said the eruption occurred Thursday, June 20 in the morning at 00.52 WIT.

"The ash column was observed to be gray to black with moderate to thick intensity to the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 127 seconds," Gradita said as quoted by ANTARA.

Mount Ibu is a strato-type volcano and has a peak height of 1,340 meters above sea level which is administratively included in the area of Ibu District, West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province.

Since May 16, 2024 until today, Mount Ibu is still on alert or level IV because volcanic and seismic activity is still relatively high.

The Geological Agency recommends the public not to move within a four-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion seven kilometers to the crater opening in the north of the active crater.
