Turkey Believed To Build Three Malaysian Navy Corvettes: Equipped With Havelsan-made Technology To Rocketsan

JAKARTA - The Turkish defense agency earlier this week announced that the country had signed a memorandum of understanding for the purchase of corvette-type warships with Malaysia.

Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin handed over a Malaysian acceptance letter for the procurement of naval vessels to be built by Turkish defense company STM, the Turkish Defense Industry Presidency (SSB) said in a statement.

SSB President Haluk Görgön said the memorandum of understanding marked a new chapter of the strategic partnership between the defense industries of the two countries.

"The implementation of this successful project will ensure that the Turkish defense industry is prioritized as a provider in other Malaysian Royal Navy projects in the Transformation Program 15 to 5 which will be implemented in the coming period," Görg Yunin said. June 11th.

Görg\"un said the project was expected to be "the beginning of the long-term cooperation between the two countries on the naval platform."

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Nordin said the deal would benefit the two countries, especially Malaysia, because Turkey is currently "a sophisticated military force, has excellent defense technology, and is one of the most advanced military manufacturers in West Asia."

The warship will be equipped with a system manufactured by about 50 Turkish defense companies, including Havelsan, Aselsan, and Roketsan.

Construction will begin this year, and the ships will be delivered to the Malaysian Navy within three and a half years, the STM General Manager said.

The ship will have a length of nearly 100 meters (328.08 ft), a weight of 2,500 tons, a maximum speed of 26 knots, a helicopter landing platform, and a capacity of more than 100 personnel.
