Agriculture Damage Due To The Eruption Of Mount Canaon Philippines Reaches IDR 28 Billion

JAKARTA - Agricultural damage caused by the eruption of Mount Kandaon on Badminton Island, the Philippines reached more than PHP104 million (Rp28 billion) in Regions 6 and 7, according to a report by the National Disaster and Management Risk Reduction Council (NDRRMC). In its latest information, NDRMC said the damage was equivalent to production of 3,947.27 metric tons. Quoted from PNA-OANA via Antara, 1,706 affected farmers and fishermen, 135 people in Region 6 and 1,571 people in Region 7, and 842.33 hectares of fields in the two areas. Of these, 625.85 hectares are classified as having no chance of recovering, and 216.48 hectares have the opportunity to recover from damage. Meanwhile, the affected families amounted to 8,580 people, equivalent to 29,739 people living in 25 subways (district levels) in Regions 6 and 7. The Civil Defense Office previously said the affected families included those displaced, and those who did not need to move or move out of their homes.

The government has provided assistance to affected families worth PHP 11,346,626 (Rp3 billion) in the form of goods and other goods. Mount Kannaon erupted for six minutes on June 3, producing a 5,000 meter high burst. A vapor or phreatic-driven explosion occurred in the crater peak at 18:51 local time.
