JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) said that a number of floor iron plates of the Bailey Bridge at the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge, Kutablang District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh, were damaged by overweight vehicles or over dimension and over loading (ODOL).

To overcome the damage, the PU Ministry temporarily closed the Kutablang Bailey Bridge on Sunday, June 28.

During the repair process, traffic flow on the Medan-Banda Aceh National Road section was temporarily diverted.

All vehicles on the eastern cross-Aceh line are directed to cross the Awe Geutah Bailey Bridge in the Paya Teupin Reudeup area, South Peusangan District.

The PU Ministry appeals to road users to comply with traffic signs, follow the instructions of officers in the field, and arrange travel time to avoid congestion around the location.

As of Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 20.00 WIB, the progress of bridge repair has reached 71.1 percent.

The Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) team together with related parties continues to accelerate the completion of work while prioritizing safety and quality of work.

A total of 20 pieces of damaged bridge floor iron plates were replaced. The work is estimated to last 6 to 9 hours.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the repairs were carried out so that the bridge could be safely crossed by vehicles, so that community connectivity and logistics distribution could be maintained.

"Improvements are being made so that the bridge can be safely crossed again, so that community connectivity and logistics distribution are maintained," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, June 30.

According to Dody, the government is committed to maintaining the stability and connectivity of national roads in Aceh, including at points that were previously affected by disasters or require emergency handling.

He added that public safety was the main priority in every work implementation in the field.

The government reminds, the importance of compliance with the provisions of vehicle dimensions and load limits.

ODOL vehicles not only accelerate the damage of roads and bridges, but also increase the risk of accidents and disrupt the smooth mobility of the community and the distribution of goods.

In fact, the massive use of ODOL vehicles has caused the state to lose up to Rp43.47 trillion every year over the past decade.

In addition to burdening the budget, ODOL vehicles also accelerate the damage to road infrastructure and increase the risk of traffic accidents.

"With the support of all parties, it is hoped that the work can be completed immediately, so that traffic on the strategic section connecting Aceh Province with North Sumatra can return to normal, safe and smooth operation," he concluded.
