JAKARTA - Head of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Arifin explained the plan to impose a maximum fine of IDR 50 million on Jakarta residents who allow their homes to become mosquito nests.
Arifin emphasized that the fine would only be imposed if residents repeatedly allowed their houses to be caught in mosquito larvae during an examination of the eradication of mosquito nests (PSN).
"It is not true that the Satpol PP will immediately impose a fine of Rp. 50 million on residents whose houses were found to be larvae, because there are stages," Arifin said in his statement, Thursday, June 6.
As an effort to control dengue fever, Arifin said that his party was re-socializing Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 6 of 2007 concerning Control of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) to the public.
He continued, the socialization of Regional Regulation 6/2007 was carried out to remind and encourage all parties to play an active role in preventing dengue disease.
"The regional regulation contains rules and obligations for the entire community to actively participate in supporting and making joint efforts in the context of preventing dengue fever, including obligations for related regional apparatus," said Arifin.
Previously, the Head of East Jakarta City Satpol PP, Budhy Novian, explained that the application of fines to residents who allowed their homes to become larvae was imposed after the initial sanctions. First, when a larvae are found during PSN activities, residents in the house will be given the first warning letter (SP1).
"The warning letter has been implemented on Friday, May 31 yesterday. It was recorded that 24 residents were given SP1 because their houses were found mosquito larvae during PSN. Most of them are in Ciracas, Jatinegara and Matraman sub-districts," said Budhy.
Then, if mosquito larvae are found during the next PSN, the person concerned will be subject to SP2. Then, the fine is charged while still allowing mosquito larvae after the second warning.
"The main approach to reduce the number of dengue fever is community empowerment. A fine of IDR 50 million is the last resort," concluded Budhy.
