Iranian Military Adviser Killed In Israeli Airstrike In Syria

JAKARTA - Israeli airstrikes in the Syrian city of Aleppo reportedly killed an Iranian military adviser, according to Iranian media.

CNN contacted the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) for comment, but they did not recognize any attacks.

Saeed Abiyar, adviser to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran in Syria, was killed in the attack, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.

Abiyar is believed to have been the first IRGC member to be killed by Israel since April, when Israel bombed the Iranian embassy complex in Damascus, killing several commanders.

The latest incident occurred around 00.20 local time on Monday, June 4, after Israel launched an air strike with missiles, targeting a number of points' around the city of Aleppo.

Iran has deployed military advisers to Syria since civil war broke out there in 2011, in support of President Bashar al-Assad.

During its war in Gaza against Hamas, which has received significant support from Iran, Israel has launched several attacks on targets in Syria.

In response to the April 2024 attack, Iran launched its first direct attack on Israel by firing more than 300 air weapons, most of which were shot down.

In the act of revenge, Israel returned a US official's shot at CNN, targeting Iran's main military air base near Isfahan.
