"The investigation began with an intensive examination of witnesses and victims," said Palu Police Chief Kombes Pol. Barliansyah in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 30.

He said based on the results of the initial examination, the two perpetrators with the initials IG (20) and VS (20) had been named suspects and were immediately detained.

The motive for the perpetrators of violence was because they were annoyed with the victim who was suspected of stealing money and electric cigarettes from the perpetrators.

"However, this act of violence is still unjustified and the perpetrator must be held accountable for his actions in accordance with the applicable law," he said.

He said the suspects were subject to Article 80 paragraph (1) of the Law (UU) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection and/or Article 170 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP), which regulates violence against minors.
