Menparekraf Asks For Strict Action On Work Tourists In Indonesia Using Tourist Visa

WEST MANGGARAI - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno emphasized that he would take firm action against foreign tourists working in Bali and other regions in Indonesia armed with tourist visas.

"No (no) it is permissible, it must be dealt with firmly," said Sandiaga Uno in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 29.

Menparekraf Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno conveyed this when asked by reporters regarding the rise of foreign tourists who work in Bali armed with tourist visas.

Sandiaga said that foreign tourists have repeatedly been found using tourist visas to work in Indonesia.

However, he continued, the number of foreign tourists who did this was very small compared to a total of more than 11 million tourist visits to Indonesia throughout 2023.

"So it has happened many times and we have to be more assertive to take action against rogue tourists, which are actually not too many, very few compared to a total of 11 million tourists," he explained.

Sandiaga also explained that there are also foreign tourists who are known to work with tourist visa capital and have been deported to their home country.

"So we will take firm action, some have been deported, some if they continue to repeat themselves they will be given sanctions of not being able to visit Indonesia for several years," he said.
