Duolingo Launches 148 New Language Trainings With AI Support

JAKARTA Duolingo has succeeded in doubling the number of language training on its platform. The addition of this new language course was successfully launched within a year thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

This is an improvement for Duolingo because previously they were able to launch 100 language trainings within 12 years. Now, they don't have to make hundreds of courses over the years as AI has simplified its work.

"Within about a year, we were able to create and launch nearly 150 new courses. This is a great example of how generative AI can directly benefit our students," said Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn on Wednesday, April 30.

In addition to launching 148 new language trainings, Duolingo also presented seven choices of non-English languages to be used as user interface (UI). This language includes Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin.

Through this update, Duolingo also provides more training models for the novice level (CEFR A1-A2) with features like Stories and DuoRadio. Each serves as a tool for reading understanding and hearing understanding.

The rapid increase in the number of language courses was also influenced by Duolingo's recent actions. The free language training platform has cut the number of its employees and replaced certain positions, particularly contractors, with AI technology.

This transition is believed to be able to rapidly increase Duolingo's ability. Despite benefiting the company, this action has been heavily criticized, especially by LindkedIn users. Duolingo is considered disrespectful of human workers.
