DKI Provincial Government Nets 2 Thousand Beggars To Homeless Since Early 2024

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has arrested 2,070 social welfare service providers (PPKS) in Jakarta from January to April 2024.

Then, West Jakarta Social Service Sub-dept. 513 people, South Jakarta Social Service 275 people, and East Jakarta Social Affairs Sub-Department 331 people.

"The PPKS consists of homeless people, beggars, street children, scavengers, blind people, and mental disabilities," said Head of DKI Social Service, Premi Lasari, to reporters, Monday, May 27.

Not only that, but the Social Service Office also reaches people with disabilities, victims of disasters, victims of narcotics abuse, psychotropics and illegal drugs (nappza), people with special needs, neglected elderly, neglected children, and neglected toddlers.

Premi explained that the affordable PPKS was initially referred to the Bina Bangun Daya Social Institution first as an initial shelter.

"After the assessment and if it is deemed necessary to refer, the Social Service will have 20 other referral centers ranging from social problems for children, the elderly, disabilities, victims of violence, to Gepeng," explained Premi.

Furthermore, PPKS will be returned to his family if he still has a family. Returns to the family are carried out under the PPKS agreement and do not repeat his actions.

"Reunification to families is also carried out for PPKS who are indeed being sought by their families because they are missing, such as the elderly who are alzhaimer, or have disabilities," explained Premi.

In addition, the Social Service also returned PPKS back to their area of origin. "We return them who are neglected, do not have the money to be equipped with a certificate from the police," he added.
