JAKARTA - A senior British defense official said the country's government was developing a radio wave gun that could destroy the threat of drones coming.

It was a Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) that fired radio waves to disrupt or damage important electronic components on enemy drones.

These cutting-edge weapons, which are being developed for the British armed forces, can be used to target ground, air, and sea drones, as well as to bring down a herd of these unmanned vehicles.

"Developments like RFDEW not only make our personnel more deadly and more protected on the battlefield, but also make Britain a world leader in innovative military equipment," Deputy Minister James Cartlidge said.

"The war in Ukraine has shown us the importance of deploying an unmanned system, but we must also be able to defend ourselves against the attack," he continued.

"Along with our increased defense spending in the years to come, our Defense Drone Strategy will ensure we are at the forefront of the evolution of this war," he said.

Details of the new weapons, with a range of up to 1 km, came after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to increase England's defense spending to 2.5 percent of gross domestic product by 2030.

The RFDEW system can be mounted on military vehicles, using mobile resources to generate radio frequency energy waves in beam beams that fire successive shots at one target, or can be expanded to reach a series of targets.

The weapon is being developed by a joint team from the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and Defense Support Equipment & Equipment, in collaboration with the British industry under Project Hersa.

DSTL chief executive Paul Holoyhead said, "This game-changing system will provide decisive operational benefits for the British armed forces, save lives and defeat the deadly threat."

"World-class capabilities like this are only possible thanks to decades of research, expertise and investment in science and technology in DSTL and our partners in the UK industry," he explained.

The plan is that the new weapon system will undergo extensive testing with the British army over the summer.
