Jokowi: The Government Must Commit To Eradicating Poverty

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized that the government continues to be committed and work hard in eradicating poverty and improving people's welfare.

This was conveyed by the President in his social media account X @jokowi, responding to the reduction in the extreme poverty rate released by the World Bank.

"The government continues to be committed and work hard to eradicate poverty and improve people's welfare," said Jokowi as uploaded on social media X @jokowi, which was monitored by Antara in Jakarta, Saturday.

Jokowi said, according to the Country Director of World Bank Indonesia, Indonesia could be said to have achieved eradication of extreme poverty when the figure reached 1.5 percent in 2022.

Meanwhile, data from the World Bank and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), he said, showed that Indonesia's extreme poverty rate continued to decline to reach 1.12 percent in 2023.

Efforts to eliminate extreme poverty are carried out through the Program to Accelerate the Elimination of Extreme Poverty (PPKE).

The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) reports that ministries/agencies (K/L) have understood the general guidelines for implementing the PPKE Program in 2023 to reach 65 percent.
