Prosecutors Demand 6 Years In Prison For Synthetic Tobacco Owners In Ambon

MALUKU - The public prosecutor (JPU) of the Ambon Senia Pentury District Attorney (Kejari) charged one defendant with alleged drug abuse on behalf of Muhammad Aleefa Fauzan Alkatiri for six years in prison.

"Ask the panel of judges at the Ambon District Court who examined and tried this case to declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 114 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics," Semina said in a trial chaired by the chairman of the Ambon District Court judge Orpa Marthina and accompanied by Rahmat Selang and Nova Salmon as member judges, in Ambon, Maluku, Tuesday, May 14, confiscated by Antara.

The prosecutor in his indictment also demanded that the defendant be sentenced to pay a fine of Rp800 million, subsidiary to four months in prison.

There are also things that incriminate the defendant being charged with imprisonment and paying fines for not supporting the government's program in preventing the spread and abuse of drugs. Meanwhile, the mitigating factor is that the defendant is polite in the trial and has never been convicted.

The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested by the police on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at around 01.20 WIT at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Batu Merah Village, Sirimau District, Ambon City.

From the hands of the defendant, the police found evidence in the form of three packages of class I drugs, a type of plant in the form of synthetic tobacco packaged using brown rice wrapping paper.

During the trial, the defendant directly conveyed his defense verbally, which essentially asked for leniency while the prosecutor stated that he remained on his demands.

The panel of judges then postponed the trial until the week with an agenda for reading the verdict.
