JAKARTA - The Hamas militant group's war with Israel in the Gaza Strip, Palestine has caused risks for pregnant and breastfeeding women which could impact children, prompting the UN refugee agency to once again call for an immediate ceasefire.
The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said in its X account that more than 150,000 pregnant women face poor sanitary conditions and health hazards amid ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and forced displacement.
"Habiba was born in a small tent. She is 2 weeks old and weighs less than 2 kg," UNRWA tweeted on X's social media, as quoted on Tuesday, May 14.
No child in the world should suffer like this. "We need an immediate ceasefire," the agency continued.
The UN aid agency warns that a new level of despair is taking hold in Gaza under the world's watch.
According to UNICEF, 95 percent of pregnant and breastfeeding women face severe food poverty in the war-torn Gaza Strip, as quoted by WAFA.
