Alert 10 Districts In South Jakarta-East Jakarta Prone To Landslide This Month

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked the public to be aware of the potential for landslides in 10 sub-districts in South Jakarta and East Jakarta this month. Head of DKI Jakarta BPBD Isnawa Adji revealed that the estimated area of potential ground movement was prepared based on the results of the overlap (overlay) between the map of the vulnerability zone of ground movement and the monthly rainfall forecast map. "According to information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), several areas in DKI Jakarta Province are in the middle zone," Isnawa said in his statement, quoted on Wednesday, May 8. In the middle zone, continued Isnawa, ground movements can occur if the rainfall above is normal, especially in areas bordering river valleys, gawir, road cliffs or if slopes experience disruption. While in the high zone, the old ground movement can be reactivated. "For this reason, the village head, sub-district head, and the community are advised to continue to anticipate the potential for ground movement when the rainfall is above normal," he said.
