BPS Records Unloading Goods At Babel Port Rises

PANGKALPINANG - Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bangka Belitung Islands Province noted that loading and unloading activities at ports in March 2024 increased as the community's economy in their area increased.

"The volume of goods loaded at the port in March 2024 was 312.05 thousand tons, an increase of 6.43 percent compared to the previous month," said Head of BPS for the Province of the Babylon Islands, Toto Haryanto Silitonga, in Pangkalpinang, Babel, Saturday.

He said the increase in the volume of goods loaded occurred in several ports in Bangka Belitung Province, with the largest at Tanjung Pandan Port at 96.46 percent, followed by Pangkalbalam Port at 9.55 percent, and other ports at 35.36 percent.

"When compared to the same period last year (January-March 2023), the total volume of goods loaded has increased by 13.41 percent," he said.

Toto stated that the same thing happened to the volume of goods that were dismantled at the port in March 2024, compared to the previous month, which increased by 6.30 percent to 101.65 thousand tons.

"This increase is influenced by an increase in the volume of unloading that occurred in several ports, where the largest increase occurred at Sadai Toboali Port at 230.69 percent," he said.

He said Pangkalbalam Port, which is the busiest unloading port, also increased by 1.32 percent.

A fairly high decline in unloading activities was found at Manggar Harbor, but did not affect the movement on aggregate, due to the insignificant number.

"When compared to the same period last year (January-March 2023), the number of items unloaded across ports fell 9.48 percent," he said.

Toto added that in March 2024, loading and unloading activities were greater than unloading activities. Manggar Port is the busiest loading port compared to other ports.
