Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked his staff to ensure that no refugees from the eruption of Mount Ruang in North Sulawesi (Sulut) were abandoned.

"The direction of the President is that the handling of refugees must be carried out as well as possible, not a single refugee has been abandoned," said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture MuhadjirEffendy after attending a limited meeting with President Jokowi discussing the handling of refugees from the eruption of Mount Ruangan at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 3.

President Jokowi also asked for quick steps to overcome so that there would be a permanent settlement related to the eruption of Mount Ruangan.

According to Coordinating Minister Muhadjir, President Jokowi approved all residents on the Island of Ruang, which amounted to 301 families to be relocated.

"The relocation is in South Bolaang Mongondow Regency and the land will be provided by the Governor and earlier the President has ordered the Minister of ATR and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to provide land for agriculture and plantations for them," said Coordinating Minister MuhadjirEffendy.

Regarding the construction of permanent housing in South Bolaang Mongondow, President Jokowi, he said, has also ordered the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to immediately carry out developments that comply with the standards of disasters, where the funds will be taken from ready-to-use funds from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

As for anticipating social issues that may arise due to relocation, the government ensures that the relocation point in South Bolaang Mongondow is typically similar to the Gunung Ruang environment.

"So there are also fishing areas, but earlier the President has also instructed the addition of land for plantations and agriculture," explained Muhadjir.
