May Day, DPR: The Majority Of Workers Are Still Far From Prosperous

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX DPR RI from the PKS faction, Netty Prasetiyani Aher assessed that currently the welfare of the majority of workers in Indonesia is still concerning.

This was revealed by Netty in welcoming International Labor Day or May Day which is celebrated every May 1.

"The majority of workers in Indonesia are far from prosperous. The wages received are not enough to meet the growing needs of life," said Netty in her statement, Wednesday, May 1.

In addition, the guarantee of the security and safety of workers' work is considered not ideal with job risks that sometimes put their lives at risk.

On that basis, Netty urged the government to listen to input and demands from workers who are always voiced every year.

The government, he continued, must be able to act as protectors and supervisors who empathize and side with workers in industrial relations

"Don't let workers feel that the government only stands by the side of employers and ignores workers. Justice and equality must also be felt by workers," he said.

Furthermore, Netty asked the government to open a wide space for workers to make May Day a democratic stage to convey their demands.

"Related officials just need to escort so that the activity runs smoothly and safely," he added.
