DIY Governor Says Funds Can Be For Poverty Reduction, But Don't Build Infrastructure

JAKARTA - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X emphasized that the Special Fund (Danais) can be used to reduce poverty through productive activities at the village level.

"In handling poverty in DIY, it can be done through the management and utilization of DIY funds to create jobs," said Sultan HB X during Syawalan's activities at the Parasamya Hall, Sleman Regency, DIY, Tuesday, April 30, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, there have been many villages (village level) in the Sleman Regency area that have succeeded in developing their territory with the help of special funds.

However, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X advised that the management of this privilege fund is not like the APBN used for infrastructure development.

"But this fund is for investment for the community to be able to be independent and alleviate poverty," he said.

Sultan also asked regencies/cities in this province to commit to reducing poverty in their respective regions through supervision of the distribution of aid and utilization of DIY privileged funds.

"One of the efforts to reduce poverty in DIY is to participate in supervising the distribution of poverty reduction assistance, both from the center and DIY so that it is right on target," he said.

Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X carried out the shawalan with the Sleman Regency Government at the Parasamya Hall of the Sleman Regency Regional Secretariat Office.

This shawalian activity is a routine daily agenda carried out in all regencies/cities in the DIY area.

Apart from Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, the Deputy Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Hadir Paku Alam X and a number of DIY Regional Government (Pemda) officials were also present.

The arrival of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and his entourage was greeted by the Regent of Sleman Kustini Sri Purnomo accompanied by the Deputy Regent of Sleman Danang Maharsa and the ranks of Forkopimda Sleman.

The Regent of Sleman in his speech conveyed his welcome to Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and his staff at the Sleman Regency Government.

Then, on that occasion Kustini reported that the celebration of Eid al-Fitr in Sleman some time ago, went smoothly and lively.

"The tradition of friendship and homecoming has been carried out again in line with the improving economic conditions of the community. We also report that during the Eid al-Fitr holiday season, Sleman is still DIY's favorite tourist destination," he said.

Kustini also hopes that the crowds of tourist visits in Sleman will have a positive impact on the economic movement in Sleman.

"Hopefully the movement of the wheels of the economy can increase the welfare of the community so that it can reduce the poverty rate in the Sleman area," he said.

The DIY Governor's Syawali activities with the Sleman Regency Government ended with a halal bi halal (handge) of all ranks of the Sleman Regency Government with Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X and Yogyakarta Deputy Governor Sri Mulia Paku Alam X.
