JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded an increase in the number of injured victims due to an earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.2 that hit Garut and its surrounding area. Now, the injured victims are 11 people.
"Those who were injured were identified in Garut Regency with 6 people, Bandung 3 and Ciamis 2 people. Until now there have been no reports of casualties due to the M 6.2 earthquake," said Head of BNPB Disaster Data and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, April 29.
As of Monday, April 29 at 04.00 WIB, 267 houses were damaged and affected. In detail, 8 houses were heavily damaged, 56 were moderately damaged, 191 were lightly damaged and 12 were affected.
"The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is still identifying the level of damage and data collection of other impacts after the earthquake," said Abdul Muhari.
Based on the mapping per area, the heavy houses in West Bandung Regency are 4 units, Tasikmalaya 2, Sumedang 1 and Pangandaran 1.
Moderately damaged houses in Garut Regency 12 units, Bandung 12 units, Sukabumi 9, Tasikmalaya 7, Bogor 5, Majalengka 1, Subang 1, Purwakarta 3 and West Bandung 2. Meanwhile, in the city administration area, BPBD recorded Sukabumi City 1, Cimahi City 1 and Tasikmalaya City 2.
A number of houses with mild damage levels were spread across Bogor, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Bandung, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Majalengka, Purwakarta, West Bandung, Pangandaran, Sukabumi City, Cimahi City and Tasikmalaya City.
"In the affected houses, BNPB is still waiting for information from BPBD which still determines the extent of the damage," he explained.
This earthquake occurred on Saturday, April 27 at 23.29 WIB. The earthquake, which is centered at sea with a depth of 70 kilometers with a parameter point of 8.42 South Latitude and 107.26 East Longitude, has no potential for a tsunami.
This tectonic earthquake was triggered by rock deformation in a subducted Indo-Australian plate under the Eurasian plate in southern West Java or popularly referred to as an intra-slab earthquake.
The Garut Regency Government has set an earthquake emergency response status for the next 14 days. The status determination is the basis for regulations for local governments in tackling and disbursing budgets from unexpected costs (BTT) for natural disasters.
