CIREBON - The Cirebon Regency Government of West Java continues to verify the 51 thousand NIKs of residents who have died but are still active. The data will be updated by recording the deaths of residents. The Regional Secretary of Cirebon Regency, Hilmi Rivai, said that based on the data collection, 51,000 residents died, but they still had an active Population Identification Number (NIK). Therefore, he said, it is important to carry out the verification process so that the NIK can be deactivated so that it produces more valid population mortality recording data. “ When the NIK is still alive, there is an obligation from the government to provide services such as in the health sector. For example, BPJS with certain aid figures,” he said in Cirebon, Antara, Thursday, April 25. Hilmi ensured that currently the Cirebon Regency Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil) was updating the data with evidence of the issuance of a death certificate. He also encouraged the public to take care of making the document, if a family member died. "This for us is very concerned, that's why this data must be eradicated," he said. Meanwhile, Head of Cirebon Regency Disdukcapil Iman Supriadi said, from January to April 2024, data related to the recording of deaths was successfully reduced and currently there are around 40 thousand NIK left. Disdukcapil will continue to socialize to communities in Cirebon Regency to immediately make death certificates for family members who have died. That way, he said, administrative public services in Cirebon Regency could run more optimally. For example, other communities can be submitted to obtain assistance services in the health and social sectors.

"Indeed, this community is sometimes reluctant to report. Because they were afraid that their assistance would be lost. Actually, no, registration can still be done again. It's just that the process has been about three months. So they are reluctant,” he said.
