The Bengkulu Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) destroyed mortar ammunition left over from World War II which was found by residents of Karang Jaya Village, Rejang Lebong Regency, recently.

Head of Public Relations of the Rejang Lebong Police, AKP Sinar Simanjuntak, said the destruction was carried out by detonating it.

"This mortar ammunition at around 11.00 WIB at the BLKM Road Race Circuit field, Cawang Baru Village, Selupu Rejang District, Rejang Lebong Regency, has carried out a mortar finding disposal activity by the Jibom Detachment Team Gegana Brimob Bengkulu Police," he said in a written statement, Wednesday, April 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that residents found the mortar left over from World War II on Friday 19 April.

After being in Brimob, the Bengkulu Police were carried out to check or identify and evacuate the mortar that was stored behind the Rejang Police Office. Furthermore, the disposal process or mortar detonation was carried out.

"Mortir this finding has a length of 29 Cm, with a diameter of 8 Cm. Then for the mortar trigger it is still there but the mortar head is no longer there, the mortar is still active with a high explosive power," he said.

According to him, the destruction of the mortar was carried out by detonating it, where before it was carried out the officers first made a 1 meter deep ground with a diameter of 40 cm, then piled it with soil to anticipate mortar debris.

"Before the explosion process, the Gegana team first gave an appeal to the people around the location who witnessed the explosion to retreat to a radius of 100 meters so as not to be hit by mortar fragments, and after that the mortar was detonated," said Sinar.
