North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un's Younger Brother: We Will Continue To Build Military Strength For Security And Peace

JAKARTA - Kim Yo-jong, the younger brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, said his country would continue to build extraordinary and strongest military forces to protect regional sovereignty and peace, state news agency reported Wednesday.

Leader Kim said a series of military exercises carried out by the US military in the region this year, starting with live-fire drills carried out with "South Korean puppet military gangsters", had pushed the regional security environment into dangerous chaos.

"We will continue to build extraordinary and most powerful military forces to safeguard our regional sovereignty, security and peace," he said.

The US and South Korean militaries are known to have carried out a series of larger-scale and intensity exercises in recent months, based on the pledge of leaders of the two countries to step up military readiness against North Korea's military threats.

About 100 military aircraft conducted two weeks of air exercises this month, according to the South Korean military.

North Korea said the US military exercise was preparation for the nuclear war against its country. Washington and Seoul say the drills are defensive and routinely carried out to maintain readiness.

North Korean state media reported on Tuesday that Kim Jong-un on Monday guided a tactical exercise that simulated a nuclear counter-attack, involving a super-large double rocket launcher against enemy targets.

KCNA called it a clear warning to Pyongyang's enemies. Leader Kim highly praised the readiness of the "best-in-the-world" tactical nuclear attack weapon and expressed his satisfaction with the drills.
