BPP HIPMI: Election Law Doesn't Know Re-elections

JAKARTA - Deputy Secretary General of the Central Board of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (BPP HIPMI), Anthony Leong, said that the demands of the Paslon 03 camp asking for the 2024 presidential election were repeated by disqualifying Prabowo-Gibran were also wrong.

Because, he said, the re-election was not known in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. The points known in the election law are only re-voting (PSU), further voting (PSL) and post-voting (PSS).

According to Anthony, in the election law there is no known term re-presidential election because it must be done from the start, either from the schedule or stages of the election, preparing a Fixed Voter List (DPT), list of presidential and vice presidential candidates, re-voting and so on.

The allegation of structured, systematic and massive fraud allegedly involving a regional official appointed by President Joko Widodo is a weak accusation.

The Director of the PoliEco Digital Insights Institute (PEDAS) stated that the appointment of the acting officials was in accordance with the mandate of the law so that there would be no vacancies in government in the regions.

"The appointment of governors, regents, mayors is not in the context of becoming a successful team or winning Gibran, but carrying out a law order to fill the vacant governor, regent and mayor positions to organize local governments," he added.

Then related to the allegations of social assistance mobilization that led to winning Prabowo-Gibran, he continued, it was also broken when four related ministers testified at the Constitutional Court trial.

"Gibran is the legitimate vice president-elect, disqualification of Gibran without a basis that is clearly tantamount to betraying the choice of the Indonesian people in the 2024 election," said Anthony.
