Press Illegal Parking, DKI Police Ask Gojek, Grab, to Bluebird Prepare Ojol Shelter

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) has started preparing a number of steps to reduce illegal parking that often takes up the road. One of the efforts discussed is the provision of shelter for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers in the office building area to a study of parking relaxation as a location for passenger pick-up and drop-off.

This step is the result of discussions between DKI's Dishub and the online taxi driver community, online transportation operators Gojek and Grab, Bluebird, Green SM, the driving safety community, and the police.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office Budi Awaluddin said that parking arrangements could not be carried out by the government alone. According to him, the involvement of all stakeholders is needed so that the policies taken still accommodate the needs of drivers while restoring the function of the road.

"We want to build a joint solution. Therefore, we invite the online taxi community, online transportation operators, passenger transportation operators, safety driving community, police, and all stakeholders to sit together to find the best steps. Parking arrangements need to be accompanied by the provision of better alternatives for drivers so that order on the road can be realized without neglecting their needs in serving the community," Budi told reporters, Friday, June 26.

In the discussion, DKI's Dishub reviewed the provision of special shelters for ojol drivers in the office area. In addition, the government also discussed parking relaxation with online transportation operators and building managers as one of the options so that passenger activities up and down no longer use the road.

On the other hand, DKI's Dishub has also provided shelter for drivers at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal. A similar model will be encouraged to be implemented in a number of buildings in Jakarta through cooperation with area managers.

"In the near future, discussions will be held with the building managers as well as online motorcycle taxi operators and passenger transport operators. In addition, there will also be the inauguration of an online motorcycle taxi shelter, which is the result of a joint initiative by Grab at Wisma Kosgoro in the near future," said Budi.

Not only focusing on the arrangement of road space, DKI Dishub also prepares a program to improve driving safety. Together with partners, the agency will hold a Safety Driving Seminar which is attended by around 200 taxi and online motorcycle taxi drivers.

The activity is aimed at strengthening drivers' understanding of a safe, orderly, and respectful driving culture.

Budi emphasized that communication with the online taxi and motorcycle taxi driver community would continue as part of efforts to arrange traffic in Jakarta.

"We will continue to build communication and work with all stakeholders so that parking arrangements go hand in hand with improving driving safety. With the spirit of collaboration, we hope that the various solutions prepared can benefit all parties while restoring the function of the road as a mobility space for the benefit of the community," he added.
