Plt Chairman of PPP Muhamad Mardiono admitted that his party expects the effect of a coattail effect from the joining of Sandiaga Uno after leaving the Gerindra Party. Including declaring Sandiaga as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) to accompany Ganjar Pranowo.

"Yes, that's right (hopefully we can get a coattail effect). So PPP after declaring Mr. Ganjar, it was not long before we declared Mr. Sandi as a vice presidential candidate carried by PPP," said Mardiono in the ROSSI 1st episode in History, Parliament without PPP broadcast on the Kompas TV YouTube channel, Thursday, April 18, evening.

At that time, Mardiono believed that Sandiaga was a new hope for PPP in the 2024 election because his name was quite popular in society. However, said Mardiono, the people answered differently.

Because PPP did not get pleasure from the 'collapse durian'. In fact, PPP had to swallow the bitter pill because for the first time in the history of the Kaaba Party did not qualify for Parliament.

"Yes, it is a part, we really hope. There are observers who say that Pak Sandi's arrival PPP can be collapsed durian, indeed it is a big hope for PPP. But that hope is not what we imagined, the implementation in the field has different reality because those who answer this are the people," said Mardiono.

Mardiono said PPP could not easily reverse course by changing course to support other vice presidential candidates in order to save the party. Because he claims, PPP always carries out decisions obediently.

"We have chosen, of course, it cannot be separated that we chose together with the PDI-P, the declaration of Ganjar that we have declared as a vice presidential candidate. This is inseparable from the results of the decisions of the political strategy which together cannot be decided between parties that we call the coalition," he said.

Therefore, PPP only hopes for Sandiaga Uno's popularity to boost the party's votes. Moreover, Sandiaga was immediately assigned as Chairman of Bappilu PPP, which is expected to have a significant electoral effect.

"We really really hope with Mr. Sandi, with the level of popularity that in our view is more popular, I hope we get the coattail effect but not yet. But we continue to fight together, hopefully, the results will be answered," he concluded.
