JAKARTA - Russian missile attacks killed 14 people and injured dozens of people in the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.

61 people were reportedly injured, including two children, the Ukrainian emergency service said. Rescue operations were underway as police searched for survivors under the rubble.

Three missiles hit the outskirts of Chernihiv, north of the capital Kyiv, at around 9 a.m. local time, destroying buildings, hospitals and higher education institutions, Ukraine, officials said.

Videos from inside the hospital showed broken glass strewn across hospital beds and doors detached from their hinges as staff evacuated from smoke-filled corridors.

Another video shows civilians taking cover next to the bus stop as smoke billowing in the distance and another missile hitting the buildings.

Among those killed was 25-year-old police lieutenant Alina Mykolayets, who was seriously injured by shrapnel. He was at home on sick leave when Russia attacked, police Chernihiv said.

Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky has warned Ukraine does not have the air defenses needed to provide protection.

"This will not happen if Ukraine accepts an adequate number of air defense systems and if the world's determination to fight Russian terror is sufficient," Zelensky said.

Ukraine's determination is sufficient. There must be sufficient determination from our partners and, as a result, adequate support."
