Minister Of Transportation: Gran Max Who Was Involved In A Tragic Accident In Japek Is An Dark Travel

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi revealed the results of an investigation related to the fatal accident that occurred at KM 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) Toll Road some time ago.

In a press conference at the Cikampek Toll Monitoring Post, Thursday, April 11, the Minister of Transportation emphasized that one unit of the Gran Max minibus involved in the accident was unofficial transportation or known as a "dark travel".

According to a report from the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC), the minibus driver is thought to be tired and carrying loads beyond the vehicle's capacity. "Not looking for scapegoats, but what facts we got from the KNKT release," said the Minister of Transportation.

The minibus driver had previously traveled back and forth for four days from Ciamis to the Central Java area. "It should have transported 8-9 people, this time it carried even up to 12 people and that is certainly not feasible," he added.

With this incident, the Minister of Transportation reminded the public to be more careful in choosing land transportation, especially during the upcoming return flow of Lebaran. He emphasized the importance of choosing official land transportation and testing the feasibility of its roads such as Damri Buses and Intercity Interprovincial Buses (AKAP). The Minister of Transportation also appealed to the public to ensure that the number of passengers does not exceed the specified capacity.

"In addition, also make sure that the land transportation used is official. If you find land transportation that is suspected of being unofficial, immediately report it to the officers of the Transportation Service or the local Traffic Police for further action," he said.

This accident is a momentum for the government to further increase supervision of unofficial land transportation in order to avoid a similar tragedy in the future. The Minister of Transportation hopes that public awareness in choosing land transportation can be the key to reducing the risk of accidents on the highway.
