JAKARTA - The Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) of the National Police, Inspector General Pol. Aan Suhanan, announced that there was a significant decrease of 12 percent in the number of traffic accidents during the 2024 Eid homecoming flow. Data compiled from April 4 to D-day, April 10, showed a decrease from 1,723 cases to 1,581 cases compared to the previous period.

"We saw an evaluation during the homecoming flow, from 4 to D days for accidents and then there was a national decline, there was 12 percent down from 1,723 cases in the previous period to 1,581 cases," he said at KM 70 B Cikarang Utama Toll Road, West Java, Thursday, April 11.

One of the main concerns is the accident at KM 58 which killed 12 people and the accident at KM 370+200 on the Semarang-Batang Toll Road, Central Java, which killed seven people. "This morning there were seven victims who died, yesterday there were 12 people who died. This is a concern for all of us," said Inspector General Pol. Aan.

Nevertheless, there is a positive note that the fatality (death) of the victims due to traffic accidents decreased by 0.04 percent. However, the number of seriously injured victims increased by 16 percent, while minor injuries decreased by 18 percent.

Aan emphasized that his party had conducted an evaluation by comparing the 2024 homecoming flow data with the previous year, and further action was needed to anticipate similar incidents. "We have evaluated deploying the Traffic Directors to deal with this blank spot or the accident-prone point becomes even more concentrated," he said.

The order has been given to the Traffic Directors at the regional police to increase vigilance and overcome accident-prone points in order to minimize similar incidents in the future.

Kakorlantas revealed that his party will continue to monitor and improve prevention efforts to ensure traffic safety during the Eid homecoming flow and the next period.
