JAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) will hold a session to determine Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri today, Tuesday 9 April at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, the Ministry of Religion office, Jakarta.
The activity will start at 17.00 WIB which begins with seminars to see the position of the hilal and at 18.15 WIB an isbat session will be held. Then, continued with the presentation of the results of the trial at 19.05 WIB.
The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religion, Kamaruddin Amin, said the isbat session was held behind closed doors. The Isbat session will be attended by Commission VIII of the DPR, the leadership of MUI, ambassadors of friendly countries, representatives of Islamic organizations, and the history team of the Ministry of Religion.
"As usual, the initial isbat session of Syawal will always be held on 29 Ramadan. This year, it coincides with April 9, 2024," Kamaruddin was quoted as saying in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.
At sunset, the height of the hilal throughout Indonesia is above the horizon between 4 deg 52.71 Celsius to 7 deg 37.84 Celsius and an elongation angle of 8 deg 23.68 Celsius to 10 deg 12.94 liters.
Based on the MABIMS (Minister of Religion of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) criteria, the position of the hilal has met the criteria for the visibility of the hilal (imkanur rukyat), namely the height of the 3 degree hilal and the angle of the elongation of 6.4 degrees. This means that Eid falls the next day.
In addition, the Ministry of Religion will also monitor the hilal or rukyatullhilal in various provinces. Monitoring is carried out at 120 points throughout Indonesia. The results of this reckoning and rukyatullhilal will be discussed and determined in court.
"So when is Eid al-Fitr, we are still waiting for the isbat trial decision. The results will be announced openly through a press conference," he said.

Kamaruddin explained that the implementation of the trial was a formal determination in accordance with the law. The legal basis for the trial of isbat is stated in Article 52 A of Law Number 3 of 2006 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 1989 concerning Religious Justices.
"Even though everyone already knows the position of the hilal, the trial must still be held, because the isbat session is not only a formal determination forum, but also a gathering and literacy forum," he said.
