East Kalimantan Police Secure 31.8 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine From The Cross-State Network

SAMARINDA - The East Kalimantan Regional Police secured 31.8 kilograms of evidence of methamphetamine from the cross-border network during the operation which was carried out at the end of March 2024.

"From this disclosure, we arrested three suspects, each resident of Samarinda with the initials Y (40), then S (41) and a Malaysian citizen with the initials P (53)," explained East Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Nanang Avianto.

Kapolda said the disclosure of this case began with the arrest of suspect Y on Jalan Jelawat Gang 5, Sidopeace Village, Samarinda City, on March 10, 2024, which carried 900 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

"When we asked a question, Y admitted to getting the item from A in Serawak, Malaysia, through S in Pontianak, West Kalimantan," he explained.

Police officers conducted an investigation and moved to Pontianak City to trace Y's whereabouts.

"Until finally Y we arrested on Saturday (23/3). From Y's hands, we found evidence of 6 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine stored in the bag," he said.

When arrested by the police, Y admitted that he still kept a number of methamphetamine in a hotel room in Pontianak City. The police then headed to the hotel and found another suspect, namely P along with evidence of 25 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

"P claimed to be ordered by A," he said.

In the press conference, the East Kalimantan Police also showed evidence of methamphetamine from the three suspects who were arrested.

Unlike usual, this network of shabu-shabu dealers does not use Chinese tea packaging or coffee packaging to trick the police.

"When viewed from the different packaging, it is possible that there is a new network," said the Kapolda.

In addition, the East Kalimantan Regional Police also confiscated IDR 1 billion in cash and 3,000 Ringgit Malaysian currencies, equivalent to around IDR 10 million.

When asked about this case related to the drug network Fredy Pratama, the Director of Drug Investigation at the East Kalimantan Police, Kombes Arif Bastari, said that this was still under investigation.

"We are still investigating and it is possible that there are a number of other suspects," he said.

The police charged the suspects with Article 114 paragraph 2 subsidiary Article 112 paragraph 2 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a minimum prison sentence of 20 years and a maximum of life.
