KPU Calls 2 Political Parties In Riau Islands To File A Lawsuit Against The 2024 Election Dispute To The Constitutional Court

The KPU of Riau Islands Province (Kepri) stated that two political parties (Parpol), namely Gerindra and Golkar, filed a dispute over the results of the 2024 general election (PHPU) to the Constitutional Court (MK).

KPU Kepri member Ferry Muliadi Manalu said the two lawsuits were at the Batam City KPU and Tanjungpinang City levels.

However, Ferry admitted that he did not know the arguments or objects of the lawsuit filed by the two political parties.

According to him, the lawsuit submitted is still general, as displayed on the website of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We have also not received official information from the Constitutional Court, but the Gerindra and Golkar PHPU lawsuits have appeared on the MK website," said Ferry.

Ferry said that the Riau Islands KPU would provide assistance to the Batam and Tanjungpinang KPUs to deal with PHPU lawsuits filed by Gerindra and Golkar.

The Riau Islands KPU and all ranks of the local district/city KPU have also made a number of preparations before facing the PHPU lawsuit, such as coordinating with the Indonesian KPU and following PHPU 2024 technical guidance.

"We continue to accompany the regency/city KPUs that have lawsuits, but are still coordinating with the Indonesian KPU, because they appointed lawyers to deal with PHPU lawsuits at the Constitutional Court nationally," he said.

Ferry continued for the KPU at the Riau Islands Province level itself so far, no PHPU lawsuit has been submitted to the Constitutional Court. However, his party is still waiting for an official letter from the Constitutional Court.

According to him, when the Constitutional Court wrote to the Riau Islands KPU that there was no PHPU, three days after the letter was received, the Riau Islands KPU had to determine the elected DPRD candidate.

On the other hand, if there is a PHPU lawsuit, automatically the determination of the elected DPRD candidate will wait until the election dispute trial in the Constitutional Court is over.

"For example, there is a PHPU lawsuit at the Tanjungpinang KPU, so the elected DPRD candidates cannot be determined until the completion of the election dispute in the Constitutional Court is complete, which is targeted on June 10, 2024," he said.

He added that the schedule for determining the elected DPRD candidates in each district/city and provincial KPU is different, because it depends on the Constitutional Court's letter whether there is a PHPU lawsuit or not.

However, according to the schedule, the inauguration of elected DPRD members for the district/city level will be in August 2024, while the provincial level DPRD will be in September 2024.
