Jakarta Barometer Urges Government To Accelerate Construction Of Manggarai Station Before Capital Moves To IKN

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Barometer public study institute urged the government to accelerate the construction of a revitalized Manggarai Central Station ahead of the capital city of Indonesia moving from DKI Jakarta to the State Capital (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

"If you want to solve the problem of transportation congestion, there is only one move for Manggarai," said Director of Jakarta Barometer Jim Lomen Sihombing to reporters in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 30.

Jim emphasized that Manggarai Station must be the entry point for all transportation that will be connected, starting from KRL Commuter Line, long-distance train, airport train to TransJakarta.

The Manggarai area is expected to become a central and integrated station that can accommodate the number of public transportation users from various regions such as Tangerang to Bekasi.

He emphasized that Manggarai Station could be further enlarged by development engineering.

Therefore, he hopes that Manggarai stations can also be included in the National Strategic Program (PSN) carried by President Joko Widodo. "In my opinion, the Jakarta Transportation National Strategic Program should be Manggarai," he said.

He said Jakarta needed a leader who had the nature of an executor like the former governor of DKI Sutiyoso.

"The criteria need executors like Bang Yos, if with the BKT paradigm how much is evicted for development, that's good," he said.

President Jokowi inaugurated the revitalization of Phase I Manggarai Station with the addition of seven lines to 14 train lines which will have an impact on increasing train travel frequency on Monday, December 26, 2023.

President Jokowi estimates that the revitalization project II of Manggarai Station will be completed in 2024-2025 and become a central and integrated station that serves passengers using the KRL Commuter Line, long-distance train and airport train, with 18 active rail lines.

The revitalization of Manggarai Station also makes it easier for people to get to Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) via airport trains, as well as facilitating the use of public transportation because it is integrated with TransJakarta, online motorcycle taxis, bajaj and other public transportation.
