JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the DPR Bobby Rizaldi, urged the National Police to thoroughly investigate the case of alleged 1,047 students who were victims of the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in Germany. Thousands of students are suspected of being victims of TIP under the guise of a ferry job internship program.

"I support it to be investigated and processed legally," Bobby told reporters, Wednesday, March 27.

Bobby regretted that the internship program, which should have become a scientific enrichment and was also converted into SKS, was misused by irresponsible parties. The Golkar legislator also requested that 33 universities running the program be evaluated.

"So that in the future there will be a foreign program to ensure the truth and check for university partners," said Bobby.

Bobby also encouraged the legal process of the case to be continued to determine whether a TIP occurred, and then special handling was carried out.

"Or as reported, it is included in the category of employment problems and inappropriate placement procedures, so that the handling is appropriate and effective," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Habiburokhman, asked all relevant parties to quickly investigate the alleged TIP case under the guise of an internship scholarship to Germany.

"And this is indeed a serious violation of the law, yes, this is the direction of the TIP," said Habiburokhman in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 27.

He said this case was a crime that organized well with the mode of luring opportunities to study there through scholarships. He also asked the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) and the Indonesian Police to act quickly in uncovering this case.

"Commission III will immediately summon the police to coordinate," said the Gerindra legislator.

In this case, five people have been named as suspects. They have the initials ER alias EW; A alias AE, SS, AJ and MJ.

The suspects were charged with Article 4 of Law (UU) Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIP, with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 600 million. Then Article 81 of Law No. 17 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers. With a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 15 billion.

The TIP case in the internship program mode was uncovered after four students who were victims came to the Indonesian Embassy in Germany. They told what was experienced.

The Indonesian Embassy also traced the internship program in question. It turns out that there are 33 universities in Indonesia that also run the program. It was recorded that around 1,407 students had departed.

The internship program is known to be completed by PT CVGEN and PT SHB. The two companies promised students an internship in Germany.

However, they were asked to pay Rp150 thousand and 150 euros. The reason is the cost of making a letter of acceptance (LOA) to PT SHB.

Not only that, they were also asked to pay another 200 Euros to PT SHB. Its designation is the creation of an approval of the German authorities or working permit.

In fact, students who want to take part in the internship program are also charged Rp. 30-50 million as bailouts.
