More than 100 students of Nigerian school staff kidnapped by armed groups from Kaduna State arrived at the local government building on Monday after they were released by the army the day before.
"There are 131 students here, six others are being treated in hospital and will be discharged when conditions improve," Major General MLD Saraso of the Nigerian military said.
He added that one of the 138 kidnapped people, a member of the school staff, died while being detained by the kidnappers.
Nigerian military announced on Sunday it had rescued 137 hostages, consisting of 76 women and 61 men, in neighboring Zamfara state, days before the deadline for paying a ransom of 1 billion naira (690,000) for their release.
One of the security sources said he saw 14 black bags, which he suspected contained ransom, were sent to the Dansadau enclave in Zamfara State. He asked not to be named, fearing the possible impact.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Mohammed Idris said at a press conference in Abuja, no ransom was paid.
Previously, school officials and residents said the number of students kidnapped on March 7 in Kuriga City, Kaduna State in the northwest was 287 students. Meanwhile, Uba Governor Sani said the number was more than 200 students.
