Police Arrest Four Debt Collectors Who Beat Advocates In Surabaya

Surabaya Police arrested four debt collectors suspected of beating an advocate at a depot in Karang Pilang District, Surabaya City, on Monday (13/1).

Surabaya Police Chief Kombes Luthfie Sulistiawan explained that the perpetrators who were arrested were suspected of using violence against the victim who was the attorney of a customer who had arrears in a credit card at a bank.

"The victim, on behalf of Tjetjep Mohammad Yasien alias Gus Yasien, was injured as a result of acts of violence committed by a number of perpetrators," said Kombes Luthfie as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 20.

Kombes Luthfie said the victim, who works as an advocate, suffered a number of bruises on the head, cheeks, neck and back as a result of attacks by the perpetrators.

"The police have arrested four suspects involved in the incident, namely NBM (32), AAJO (24), RDK (19), and AA (30). The four perpetrators are private employees and have now been detained," he said.

The perpetrator forced the victim to sit down and then carried out acts of violence together when the victim refused.

"In addition to committing physical violence, the perpetrators also damaged a number of furniture at the scene, including three plastic chairs and a spoon that was damaged due to being slammed by the perpetrators," he said.

The evidence that was secured was in the form of a flash disk containing video recordings of beatings, a brown jacket, a white shirt, a black green shirt, and three plastic chairs and a damaged spoon.

For their actions, the perpetrators were charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning criminal acts of violence against people or goods, with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
