53 Russian Missiles Target Ukraine's Critical Infrastructure, Energy System in Lviv Destroyed

JAKARTA - Russia attacked important infrastructure in the western region of Ukraine, Lviv on Sunday, March 24 local time.

The Ukrainian government said the attack consisted of an attack by 57 missiles and drones which also targeted the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. This attack was two days after Ukraine's energy system was air bombed.

"There were two initial attacks on critical infrastructure facilities which were both targeted by cruise [missiles] at night," wrote Lviv Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi via the Telegram messaging application, quoted by Reuters, Sunday, March 24.

Maksym said this attack used the Kinzhal hypersonic missile, which is more difficult to shoot down.

Ukraine's Energy Ministry added that important energy facilities in the Lviv region were completely destroyed when the attack resulted in a power outage.

The Ukrainian Air Force also said 18 of 29 missiles and 25 of 28 attack drones entered its territory in the attack.

There are currently no details about the damage, but the targeting of critical infrastructure could indicate that Russia is trying to continue to put pressure on the energy system after its attacks caused widespread power outages last Friday in Ukraine.
